Where are the desktop Icons?

I installed Windows XP Pro Ok but where are the usual
Icons on the desk top. I got the Recycle Bin but where is
the My Computer, Network Places, My Documents and the
Briefcase Icons and how do I put them up on the Desk top?

drag icons to launch next to start button

always visible
