Where are the contacts and address book stored??

I need to know where the contacts and address book is
stored, my computer has crashed and can not be recovered.
(I installed WinXP SP2 beta and this made my computer
where it would no longer boot, no safe mode, no repair,
nothing)

I have my crashed harddrive in a different computer and
have gotten my mail off the old harddrive but I cant get
my address book and rules off it. How can I do this? I
am using outlook 2003.

Thanks for the help

I should also add that I copied my pst files from the old
drive to the new one and this does NOT give me back my
contacts or address book. When I click new mail and then
the "To" button it gives me the:

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts
folder associated with this address list could not be
opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not
have permissions. For information on how to remove this
folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft
Outlook Help."

I have no way to get my contacts that I know of, they
were on my old outlook and when I used the "To" button my
contacts would come up and there was no problem.

Is there not some way to just find the contacts and
address book? If its not in the .pst file then where is
it?

There was no password needed to gte to it and it was not
protected in any way.

You should be able to easily find your contacts if you've opened the old
..PST file in Outlook. If the Folder List is not visible, click View |
Folder List. Do you see the Contacts folder there? (The address book issue
is even more easily fixed, but first we have to make sure your contacts are
there...the address book is just another view of your contacts.)

Im not sure what folder list you are talking about, in
outlook when I select view at the top there is no option
for selecting a folder list.

If I transfered over all my PST files why are all my
settings/rules/address book gone? All that gave me was my
saved mail. Why dosent this step do it all? Why is
outlook so complicated to use and backup? I am beginning
to be very frustrated by this software. Seems kinda crazy
that in order to move my "mail reading/writing software"
(outlook) from one machine to another is a 4-5 step
process with moving the mail, then setting outlook up
again how I want it to look, then importing all my
contacts manually or from a text file, then setting up
all my rules again and making each email go to the
correct box. Is there a email program out there that
will do all this with one easy backup step? Outlook does
not work like this and it seems like it is designed to
take hours to set up and cause computer professionals to
go grey years ahead of thier time. I will switch away
from outlook in a second if there is something else to
use.

Sorry about that -- I forgot you were using Outlook 2003. You can find the
Folder List button in the Navigation Pane (and this you can enable from the
View menu if it's not already showing). If the Folder List button does not
appear at the bottom of the Nav. Pane, click the double arrows (the tooltip
will say "Configure Buttons"), click Add or Remove Buttons, and add the
Folder List button. Since Outlook 2003 gives you easy access to different
folder types by group, it may be easier to view the whole folder list at
once so you can see all folders in one view, like you did in earlier Outlook
versions. Since you're looking for Contacts folders specifically, you can
also click the Contacts button to see all open Contacts folders.

It really shouldn't be as hard as it has been for you to back up and restore
Outlook data. Have you already seen this article?

Yes i have seen that link you posted, however I dont
think it applies to this problem because it lists .pab
files and I looked everywhere for them. I dont think that
applies to outlook 2003. I did find the folder list and
my contacts are there. Adress book still does not work
but contacts are there.

If outlook is going to place everything in one
file/filetype with .pst why dosent it appear as it did
with my last installation of outlook 2003? This is
really poor design to have to re-do all my rules and the
way I had outlook setup. Not to mention I have to use
some kind of "trick" to get my address book to work.
This is nuts!!

A .PAB is a separate Personal Address Book file and it isn't really needed
in Outlook anymore -- in fact, I don't think it's been widely used since
Outlook 97. It was replaced by the Outlook Address Book which is just a
separate view of your Contacts folder(s), instead of a standalone file. See
http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/olwhypab.htm and also click the link in
the More Information section of that article.

FYI -- I'm going out of town and may not be able to get back to this thread
soon, so if you're still having trouble and I don't reply, you may want to
start a new thread. My apologies...
