When you import a movie into Movie maker it very cleverly reduces the file to
clips where are these stored ? I have hunted high and low and cant find find
them. they must be stored to be available to collections when ever you
restart.

The info about the clips in collections, including the thumbnail images, are
stored in a single database file.... see my website's Manage Your Files >
Collections page.

Well I found the file I think it must be inadvertently associated with
something in Nero as it is listed as a video CD Movie.
Not sure this file is quite what I thought anyway I was hoping to import
DV-avi and have movie maker neatly clip it then copy and paste the clips or
at least export them somewhere else.

No unfortunately the splits are only done in Movie Maker. It doesn't
physically do anything to the video file itself.
If you want each clip to be a separate video you need to save each one at a
time as a video by dragging it to the timeline and saving to your computer.

Ahhh...thanks Wojo. My suspicions confirmed... and yes that would be a way
of doing what I want, even if it is a bit time consuming. Can't think why I
didn't consider doing that before.

Hoping for an easier way out I suppose :-)
