I had a motherboard go 'plink' and had to replace. Both old and new are
running the nforce2 chipset, though the new board probably has a bit newer
of a version.
I was getting the 'inaccessible boot device' BSOD after getting the new
board up and going. I've installed a fresh copy of 2k in another folder, and
that one boots without problems. I'm trying to get my old installation up
without re-installing all of the software. Re-installing everything will be
a bi*ch.
I've been playing with the registry to try to get rid of the BSOD. I found
on some site that HKLM\ControlSet001\CriticalDeviceDatabase section is where
the IDE drivers are loaded from. I've replaced that section with the one
from the good box (and the driver files), but no luck. I even tried
replacing the 'system' registry hive with that of the good machine. That
gave me hope as it got past the BSOD, but the box reboots itself before
Windows completely loads.
Is there some additional area in the registry that deals with the IDE
drivers?
If I get my new installation up and going with all the hardware, is it
possible to transfer all the files over to the old installation (as listed
by driver details in device properties) and copy the system registry over?
Am I just SOL and doomed to re-install everything?
TIA
