Where are HISTORY items stored?

Am using Outlook 2003 with BCM.

If I create a new contact for John Doe in "Business Contacts in BCM", and
let's say later ADD emails and a letter.doc file under history...

1) where is this being stored...is it part of outlook.pst, or is it (like in
ACT!) put in a folder somewhere that contains a "copy" of the letter.doc
file and some type of encrypted email text file like 125RTZX34.txt for each
email?

2) What if I DELETE the original letter.doc file from My Documents...is
there still a copy or something stored within Outlook BCM, or is Outlook
relying on a link to the original and would it show under History a "file
not found" condition?

3) What if I DELETE the original email in my Outlook INBOX or SENT box...
does BCM still retain a copy or does it show under History a "file not
found" condition?

Thanks,
George

History items, like all BCM items, are stored in BCM's MSDE database and
exposed in Outlook in a folder you can see in the folder list, called
Business History in this case. The files themselves are not stored in BCM at
all; only links to the original files are stored.

When you delete a linked Outlook item, the BCM history item is not deleted.

If you delete a linked file, the link from the BCM history item will give
you a "file not found" error.

Thanks Sue,

So, is this what that means:

-BCM will basically forever keep a copy of an email (assuming I put it into
a contact's history), even if I delete the email in my inbox or sentbox, and
it will look just like the original I deleted

-BCM's history can't be relied on to keep a copy of a document...all it does
is create a link to the document.doc somewhere else. The minute that's
deleted or even moved to a new folder... BCM will say "file not found"

-If above is true, is there any way to sort of permanently store (archive)
in BCM history a snapshot of a document.doc file?

Thanks,
George

For short documents, you could create a BCM Business Note for the contact
and copy and paste the text of the document into it. The amount of text that
can be stored may be limited. You should get a warning message if you put in
more than BCM will store.
