After an earlier crash in XP I couldnt find its e-mail and my own @accounts,
with the disk as slave, those files was visible again when that XP was
repaired.

Now after another crash I like to copy all before repairing. Emails arent
found with seek *.dbx, my own adresses not in seeking *.iaf. Where are they
in Explorer and DOS/consol?

Your search probably did not include Hidden Files and Folders.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in
Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

Thanks for good links, I'm used to look for hidden and have no export/backup
for my latest accounts etc. Application data etc. is empty in that XP, guess
it got lost.
I'm even used to paste old dbx and put them in my current account:)
That XP doesnt boot, can hkey be found via my CD consol, is that way called
dos or is it run?

Sometimes XP-crasher or all can work a year.

Your OP gave me the impression that you have all your messages and folders,
but just want to back them up. Is that the case, or are you missing
messages?

Nothing is found, it was the same in a former crash, they turned up when XP
was repaired. I'm used to backup of what I can find, your link may do it
better, if they can be found. I'm afraid I have to make a new installation
this time so I like to find them first incl. my latest e-mailacconts.

I asked if you were missing messages from OE, or are you just trying to
locate the files to back them up? All you say is nothing is found, so I
still don't know what you are trying to do. Nothing what?

You said there is nothing in Application Data. Did you enable Hidden Files
and Folder as I showed? Here it is again.

Yes I'm missing them all in an crashed XP and OE, to back up before trying
to
repairs XP.

It was enabled.

If you are missing messages, how do you expect to back them up? Which
folders? Have you looked in the Recycle Bin for bak files?

Where are hidden mail and accounts?=Is the subject since I couldnt find them
last time in an crashed XP but they turned ip when it was repaired. I know
how to enable hidden files, mail=dbx and accounts=iaf, can they
otherwise be found without Explorer?

If you do an Advanced search for *.dbx and include Hidden Files and Folders
you turn up nothing at all? Even if you had a new machine with OE not yet
set up, you would still have the default dbx files.

The only place they can be is in Windows Explorer. I have absolutely no
explanation for what you are (not) seeing unless you were searching the
wrong drive.

Nothing on that disk at all from XP.

They may be gone during my interupted merger with P. Magic. How about
recovery consol?

If you have no dbx files, you /might/ be able to retrieve messages with
DBXpress run in Extract From Disk mode, but no guarantees at all.

If you ever get sorted out, consider this tool.

This freeware tool backs up everything in OE in seconds. Disregard what is
written in red. That is referring to a different program.

Outlook Express Quick Backup (OEQB):

All your OE data is backed up in a folder you create and that folder should
be copied to CD or Flash periodically.
