Where are Favorites?

Favorites location in Windows XP if installed on C:
C:\Documents and Settings\logon_name\Favorites

....Alan

The location is stored in the Registry under the Favorites entry in the key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

So if you know how to use RegEdit, you can run it, open that key, double
click that entry and see the path in the file system where Favorites data is
saved.

You can copy that folder in the file system to some other location and then
provide the path for the new location to that Registry entry.

CAUTION: I haven't tried this, so I can't be sure it'll work. Secondly,
using RegEdit is very dangerous for your system's health, so don't try this
unless you've already done this kind of stuff. Thirdly, it's probably best
to wait for some MVP to weigh in here and advise you.

HTH,
Richard

In Windows 2000 or XP, you can open Windows Explorer (IE must be closed),
navigate to the Favorites folder, and simply drag it from its current
location to wherever you want it to be. Windows will update the registry
to reflect the move.

Hey Gary,

That's nice to know. Sure beats the risky (for Jay Lunis) procedure that I
spelled out.

Regards,
Richard
