I am wondering if it is worth to create a FtpWebRequest my
own or just wait.

..NET 2.0 will be out somewhere in 2005-2006, together with Longhorn.

The FTP classes will already be available in .NET 1.2. If I remember
correctly, there will be a public beta of 1.2 somewhere in March/April of
next year [however it's possible that I've dreamt all this, so don't rely on
this date too much].

Actually, the .NET Framework 2.0 is codenamed Whidbey and is scheduled for
release in the second half of 2004. The beta is scheduled for next spring.
