sending me an error message "please insert a disc into the HP CD Wr.... I'm
using the "HP Record Now" s/w. I know when I first got this computer I had
to delete my usb ports and then reboot in order for my computer to recognize
them so that I could use them. I think it is something to do with plug and
play, not sure. Anyway, I thought I'd try that and then I thought I'd better
come here and ask someone if they know what's wrong or if that's something
you do with a new computer (delete the h/w and then reboot) . All I want to
do is transfer my files from one computer to the other. I'd sure appreciate
any suggestions or answers.
Thank you,

Are you inserting a blank CD into the drive ??

An easier way to transfer files from one computer to another is by using a
memory stick (called flash drives or thumb drives) - just saw an add for 1 GB
memory sticks for $15, so they're relatively cheap.

Yes, I am using a blank CD. If I were to use a memory stick wouldn't both
computers need the hardware? I am trying to transfer from Windows XP to
Windows Vista. The xp computer is older and doesn't have a memory stick
port. Can you use a memory stick using a usb cable? Please forgive my
ignorance but I just am not familiar with alot of the computer world. My
Vista computer has the memory stick capability. Please advise. Thank you
Mad Dog.

Yes a memory will plug into the usb port and be
recognized as another drive. Most use the name "thumb drive" so as not to
mix them up with digital camera memory sticks...Aloha
