When the operating system is controlling the page file size, etc., in what
partition or partitions does the operating system put the page file?

As far as I'm aware it places it on the same partition that Windows is
installed on - usually C:\

If Windows is installed on the C: drive or partition then the pagefile by
default is also located on the same drive (C:) or partition.
Note that the OS always controls/manages the pagefile, you can however
specify where the pagefile is located and what size it is if you choose to
(override the default) do so.
