I have a client who connects to his work computer from home via VPN and RDP.
When he is at work and he tried to right-click any file other than an exe,
it takes 1-2 minutes for the pop-up menu to open. I have followed tons of
articles and tips and finally sniffed the packets and found that the work
computer is actually looking for his home computer?!? I searched through
the registry for the IP of the computer and the name and didn't find
either?! Does anyone have any suggestions?

That could be the issue, especially the mapping. Any mapping if using net use command?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I had already tried that.

The final fix was to dump the user's local profile and recreate it....
