I bought an HP Photosmart 3210 printer, scanner, copier last year as I have lots of colour slides I took in the 60's, plus masses of 35mm negatives and this machine is fitted with a proper holder for both. I have been very pleased with its ability to copy and print and scan and I now have most of my old slides transferred to my PC, not a problem. But I accidently spilled a few drops of water on a photograph I had printed and it smudged, not good I am sure you agree, especially as I have used HP's own paper and Vivera inks which are not supposed to fade. I realise now that all the documents I print smudge too, and now have to put sellotape over address labels to protect the printed address.

Do all printer inks do this? and is there any answer? It seems ludicrous to me that printed work should be so easily damaged or defaced especially since I am using the full priced inks.

Yep ... you need to laminate, or use "Durabright" ink printer ... only smudged when physically rubbed while wet. The ink did appear to bleed but the apparent bleeding disappeared when the paper dried.

Hi.
Talking about inks.
I`ve been using, because of the cost, non branded inks in my "Epson CX3200" printer.I`ve been doing this for a number of years. But of late the inks are drying up before they become completly empty. I have complained to the firm I use and they have been very good at sending me replacements. But I was told by the girl on the phone, that to buy genuine Epson cartridges would cost me £26 for the B/W and £21 for the colour cartdridge! Add those two together and you can almost buy a new printer including inks, and when finished dump it and buy another. This surely is the economics of the mad house!! How can it be that inks cost more than a printer? There would appear to be more technology in ink cartridges than in printers, and that I can`t beleive.

You were luckier than me.

Had a CX3200 a few years back and the 3rd party cartridges ruined it first time. Clogged the nozzles, printer screwed, got and HP instead.

Epson cartridges are INSANELY expensive, even compared to other companies.
