I received some helpful comment regarding autocorrect but is there a way
to turn off the list option period? The chronology below is still being
formatted by WORD as though the dates were list numbers.

Thanks

BRITISH CHRONOLOGY

388: Battle of Poetovio - capture and execution og Magnus Maximus. His
soldiers returned to Armoria. St.Helen returned to Armoria.

389: Valentinian II Western Emperor. Stilicho commander in Britain.
Legio[?]XX decided, seniores and juniores, not Britones

c390: Death of Paternus Pesrut(Padarn Beisrudd), king of Vokadini[?],
descendant of Cunobelinus

391: Eternus (Edeyrn), son of Paternus, recognised as new Roman client
king of Vokadini [?]

392: Suicide of Western Emperor Valentinian at Vienna. Anti-emperor
Eugene at Trier.

I think this is what you've been told before, but you evidently haven't done
it:

1. Go to Tools | AutoCorrect | AutoFormat As You Type.

2. Clear the check box for "Automatic numbered lists."

3. Clear the check box for "Define styles based on your formatting."

4. Clear the check box for "Format beginning of list item like the one
before it."
