I'm compiling a chronology for a friend - subject to my struggle against
RSI - a sample is printed below. Normally I write most of my text in
WordStar and convert it but I've been inputting this directly into Word.
Problem is that the program thinks the numbers at the beginning are list
numbers and treats them as such. Is there any way around this? Also,
everytime I start a new line with a small letter the program converts it
to a capital. How can I turn off this feature? Thanks.

BRITISH CHRONOLOGY

388: Battle of Poetovio - capture and execution og Magnus Maximus. His
soldiers returned to Armoria. St.Helen returned to Armoria.

389: Valentinian II Western Emperor. Stilicho commander in Britain.
Legio[?]XX decided, seniores and juniores, not Britones

c390: Death of Paternus Pesrut(Padarn Beisrudd), king of Vokadini[?],
descendant of Cunobelinus

391: Eternus (Edeyrn), son of Paternus, recognised as new Roman client
king of Vokadini [?]

392: Suicide of Western Emperor Valentinian at Vienna. Anti-emperor
Eugene at Trier.

Tools > AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat as you type > Apply as you type [ ]
automatic numbered lists

Also, everytime I start a new line with a small letter
the program converts it to a capital. How can I turn off this

Tools > AutoCorrect Options > AutoCorrect > [ ] capitalize first letter of
sentences

In each AutoCorrect/AutoFormat case, you can immediately undo Word's change
by Edit>Undo.

Please respond in the same thread on this newsgroup. Make sure you

Do not mail to me directly without invitation - you have a choice of

And Ctrl+Z = Undo.

1 when Word sees numbers that seem to be sequential starting at every new
line it turns on the auto numbering option. You can click to deselect this
any time it tries to "help" you. When word tries to capitalize the first
letter, back up (use the arrow keys) delete the capitalized letter and
reenter the lowercase letter.

Ctrl+Z will Undo either of these actions (AutoFormat, AutoCorrect).

See my earlier reply for an easier way, using undo.
