When I turn on I cant access my desktop

The other night i was an idiot and turned off my computer without logging off
first. the next day when I switched on it makes all the noises of turning on
but then stops at a windows screen. nothing else happens - I have a blue
screen with some writing that says windows XP - my mouse arrow works but that
is it. I can access Bios from the startup. but have not changed anything.
Has anyone ever had something similar or could help out.

Please post back here the error number and the exact words you see on the
blue screen.
Some times a virus can cause this problem , Reboot your computer into safe
mode. Keep hitting the F8 key the page will allow you to select safe mode,
when is safe mode run you antivirus program. And see if it finds a
virus.............anyway post back here as much details as you can.
