I have used Microsoft Outlook 2003 for many months without any problem. But
in the last few days, I get a beep from the computer when I try to enter a
phone number or email into a contact record. It will not allow me to enter
the information. What is wrong and how can I fix it?

Make sure the dialing location for your Operating System is set correctly.

I am not concerned at this time about dialing phone numbers from Microsoft
Outlook. I am just trying to enter the information so that I have quick,
easy access to it when I need it. For some reason, the program just stopped
letting me enter the information. Any other thoughts? Thanks.

Why do you ask for other thoughts rather than using the ones I provided?
Outlook couldn't care less whether you intend to dial. You still must have
your dialing location set correctly so it will know how to format your phone
numbers. Your symptoms usually your Telephony registry keys are missing or
damaged. So start there.

I was quite sure your suggestion did not address the problem--the reason
being that I had never had the problem over a period of many months of using
Outlook daily. Today I discovered I had the number on (or off); I toggled it
and it solved the problem. I appreciate your effort to help.

I see. You were quite sure your Telephony registry keys could not have
become damaged?
Guessing that you had turned off your Num Lock key is quite beyond our
ability. Those things you need to figure out for yourself.
