When I "Get external data" MS Access 2000 freezes when "Setting up Wizards" -
this is in a new DB and a complete reinstall of Office has failed to help.
What can I try next?

Please? Anyone? There's far too much brainpower here for noone to have any
ideas for what I can try next ;<}

Did I miss some vital information? Would any more info help? I use Win XP,
SP2 - Windows and Office updates are fully up to date (from MS website).

Perhaps to try and elaborate on the info below -

If I goto the option "Create table by using wizard" then I see "Setting up
Wizards" in the info bar at the bottom - with the progress bar showing about
75% progress, but it doesn't move from there. The Wizard doesn't launch.

If I go through the menus File/Get External Data/Link Tables I get the file
browser, can select a file, but then get locked into the "Setting up
Wizards" getting stuck at about 75% progress. It is identical if I choose
File/Get External Data/Import.

I'm at a complete loss - I suppose I could try a complete XP
reinstallation - but obviously that has to be my last resort - there must be
a more sensible course of action......

Please don't hesitate to ask if other information would be useful.

Thanks in advance

The first thing I'd try is re-registering ACCWIZ.DLL (using
regsvr32.exe).

If that doesn't do the trick, it's time to search the Microsoft
knowledgebase. I'm hesitant because I've never really used Office 2000,
but if you can't find something directly relevant try looking for an
article on completely uninstalling it; I seem to remember that there are
issues that are not fixed by an ordinary re-installation that are fixed
by a complete uninstall followed by installation from scratch (plus of
course all the service packs). That's a tedious job, but not nearly as
bad as formatting the HD<g>.

Thanks John - will give it a try and let you know how I get on.....

Your help's appreciated

I think this is a stupid question coming up.......I'm trying to do this with
the command
regsvr32 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\accwiz.dll
then I get the error:
LoadLibrary("C:\Program")failed - The specified module could not be
found.
Obviously it seems it is looking for the folder "Program" rather than
"Program Files" - so the old MSDos version - and not handling the space -
how do I deal with that? (I feel I should know that - sorry)

I usually just use Windows explorer and drag the DLL's icon onto the
regsvr32.exe icon. To use long file names on the command line, you have
to quote them:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\blah blah.dll"

I had tried with quotes as well, but that didn't work. However click and
drag worked fine - thanks - no success though with Access.

Moving on to your next suggestion.....

OK - Success - a complete uninstall (as per MS KB article - uninstalling as
normal, then deleting additional files and registry entries as instructed)
and reinstallation seems to have solved the problem.

Thank you very much for your suggestions and advice John

I'm glad it worked.
