When host is assigned static tcp/ip, the remote computers lose access.

I've set up a Windows XP network. I have two network
connections on the host computer. One connects the host
computer to my DSL modem. The other goes to a network hub
(by that I mean a network switch that my three computers
connect to).

I've configured this as directed by the network wizard. I
set up the host to connect directly to the Internet, the
remote computers to connect to the Internet through
another computer. The wizard assigned the host computer a
static TCP/IP address. Now the two remote computers won't
come on to the network. They're still connected to the
network, but they won't let me share files or look at the
workgroup computers. I get a message saying I don't have
access and must ask the administrator (me) for access
permissions.

If I change the TCP/IP properties on the host to "Obtain
an IP Address Automatically," then the remote computers
come back on the network, with file sharing etc. enabled,
but then the remote computers can't access the internet.

So, how do I configure things so the remote computers can
connect to the Internet through the host? What piece of
the puzzle am I missing? There's a note saying I have to
reestablish the TCP/IP settings, but how do I do that?
(Assuming that really is what has to be done.)

Make sure that the two "remote" computers are set for "Obtain an IP address
authomatically".
In IE settings (Tools/Internet Options/Connections tab, make sure that
"Never dial a connection" is selected and under LAN settings, all the
checkboxes are UNchecked (automatically detect and all that...)

If you still have issues, see this KB article to set up Internet Connection
Sharing on the XP host connected to to the DSL modem:

I'd also recommend enabling Internet Connection Firewall on the XP host
machine - see 283673 HOW TO: Enable or Disable Internet Connection Firewall
in Windows XP
