I have Outlook 2002. When I enter local phone numbers without the area code
for a contact, Outlook will automatically put a '1' before the number and the
only way I can get it to go away is to enter an area code. How do I stop
this from happening? Thanks! BJ

Turn the option to add the country code off.
You'll find this option in the Dialing Options... dialog in the Contacts
Folder > Actions > Call Contact > New Call...

That was not the problem. I clicked on 'dialing properties' and under
'dialing rules' is a dialing location area. There is one noted and it is
named 'new location' and a 1 was there. I tried to edit it to nothing and it
would not let me. I finally entered my local area code in the box next to
United States. So now instead of a 1 automatically being entered, it is now
entering my area code. So how do I get that to go away?

Thank you

You are now posting an entirely different question. You asked how to keep
Outlook from automatically adding the country code to your phone numbers. I
told you.
You are now asking how to keep Outlook from automatically masking the phone
number with the area code. You can't do that, nor is there a need to.

When you first answered me, there wasn't a one in the area you told me to
look in and I found the 1 in the other place so I did not understand why it
was there and if it had to be there.

I appreciate your help.
