I am merging my contact list from one computer to another. Both have outlook
files and there will be numerous duplicates. How can I save the version of
the duplicates that is the most recently updated? How will I know it is most
recently updated?

The term "contact list" is a vague term not used by Outlook.
Doesn't the Modified date field provide you the information you need?

One way is to copy the PST file from the 2nd computer and open it in
Outlook on the 1st computer. Then use a Duplcate Contact program of which
there are many to choose from - lots to choose from, some free, some not.

One that may be of interest is ContactGenie Duplicate Contact Manager
(http://www.contactgenie.com/dupe_manager_4_outlook.htm - not free). You
can process multiple folders, select any field(s) for "duplicate
determination", designate which contact is considered primary (i.e. Last
Modified, Last Created etc), preview everything before anything is acted
on, manually merge fields between duplicate contact sets etc etc
