Now when inserting CD-ROM it freezes the computer.

Sounds like your drive is on the fritz. Does the light on the front come on
like it normally does when you put in a disk, or does it just blink rapidly?
You could try a cleaning CD (which is just a CD with a little brush glued on
it), or try it in another PC if you have access to one.

The light blinks in cycles. When it does blink, it is a rapid sequence.

A side note: Before inserting CD-ROM I open My Computer>open CD Drive (D:).
A message states: Please insert a disk into drive D:

No doubt it detects.

Just inserted same disk in second computer...works fine.

Hook up the drive in the 2nd PC if at all feasible and see if it works
there.
