Windows XP what's wrong with icons in XP ???

i had observed that from time to time when i make a certain folder's icons to look as thumbnails or tiles or any other look that another folders in different place on the hard-disk take the same look & if i tried to return the second one the first one returns too, as they are connected together or something !!!!!!!!!
what is that ??? is it a virus or something although i had make virus scan with latest update but nothing found !!!
please help how can i solve this problem ???
