Hello:
I merged a database into a letter. That went ok. When I try to print the letter out, it prints about 5 to 12 of the letters then it start printing a single line at the top %C*+wi w/ hearts and smilies etc. I thought is was a virus but even the most updated Norton doesn't detect anything throughout the whole computer.
What am I doing wrong? Anyone know how I can fix this so I can get back to work?
Please help.
Thanks,
Melissa

Sounds more like a communication problem between computer and printer.
Mailmerge files are often very large -- the symptom you describe is the sort
of thing that happens if the computer is sending data faster than the
printer can process it. The strange characters you see are the printer
control codes and instructions, interpreted as text.

The good solution is to fix the communications: experiment with the port
settings in the printer setup dialog, and with the corresponding settings on
the printer itself. Also check the cable itself.

The work-around is to process your mailmerge in small batches. In Word you
can specify that you want to merge records 1 - 10, 11 - 20, etc.
