What's with the Windows Installer screen

WTF is it installing. I probably get hundreds and hundreds of these a day
since I installed, 5 days ago. No matter what I click ... file, or program
.... it displays and says it's preparing to install. I disabled the
installshield and that didn't change anything.

And idea what this is. It just about cripples me. Cancelling each screen
just makes more screens pop up. sometimes I have several happening at the
same time.

I can't be the only person experiencing this, can I?

Well, you made me smile ... but I believe you "not". My post was at 4:30 in
the afternoon ... silly!

Yes... YOU are the ONLY person experiencing this... now get to bed...

We talking RTM here or beta? Does the installer window disclose WTF it is
trying to install?

Beta (sp2).

I have the same question ... wtf is it installing. It's still happening.
Sometimes there are 3 or 4 Windows Installer screens open at one time,
however, the difference now (a few days later), is that they actually go
away. They wouldn't go away before.

Here's a typical session.

Open any program (just pick something) = installer
Try to start an email = installer
Open another program = installer
Open IE Explorer = installer
Start Windows = installer
Close Windows = -cannot close because a program is still open "Windows
Installer" ... I have to wait, then it goes away and I can close.

It's wierd!

Yeah, that's too weird. Don't know that it's worth anyone's time to try and
troubleshoot downlevel code, though. Not trying to be mean or anything...
have you tried to reinstall Vista? Uninstall anything you installed after
the Vista install?

Lang

Yes Lang ... I'm thinking the same thing ... that it might not be worth
troubleshooting. I'm hoping it sorts itself out ... am hoping RC1 helps.
It's a little closer the the real thing than my beta 2 build.

I didn't try a reinstall, but really gave it very serious consideration.

I googled this problem and there are others experiencing this behaviour and
it sounds like some have it as bad as me ... but ... I'm not going to sweat
it until I see how it pans down the road. I've kind-a gotten used to this
insane behaviour.

Thanks for your comments.
