When I save a project in mm2 I can only save it in a .MSWMM file extension. When I try to bring the project back into mm2 it will not recognize the .MSWMM extension. I also can import into collections some avi files and some I can't. I down loaded mm2 twice and still get the same thing.

That is perfectly correct... a MSWMM file is a project. You need to Save to
My Computer as a WMV or DV-AVI in order to play the finalized work in other
applications.

The problem is that MM2 will not open up the file or project either. MM2 keeps telling me that .mswmm is not a file extension that MM2 recognizes.

I guess I need to be more clear about the problem. When I save a project in save as the only choice I have is .mswmm so I save it with that file extension and it is saved in my videos. When I attempt to open the project back into MM2 I get a message telling me that ".mswmm is not a supported file type and it cannot be imported into windows movie maker" This is what confuses me.

Hi,
You should be able to use File->Open Project ... to read back in the
project (.mswmm) file. What you can't do is do a File->Import Into
Collections... to import that saved project into the current collection. Is
that what you were trying to do or is it the File->Open Project... that was
failing?
Thanks,
Chris.
