AMD is saying that the newest stepping of the Athlon 64 is coming out on
April 4th. Do any of you know how it will be different than the
Winchester? Is it worth waiting for?

I realize that my motherboard BIOS will need updating as well, but, as this
will be my first new build in 8 years, I can wait a little longer if I
must.

Will Venice do line processing or caching differently? Will it operate at
a different voltage? What feature size is the process?

TIA

BTW, I am new to AMD CPUs, in as much not from following them but it will
be my first system build with one. I can't wait.

if you've waigted this long why bother now .. u cgot a lot of catching up
to do ,huh ? i would upgrade incrementally and cheaply ..
? or if you can take the plunge and do all those steps and leraning curves
at onec.. then blow it out to the max ...

As much as I'd love to believe it, I don't think these CPUs will have the
512MB L2 cache that the article claims they will ;-)

Al

Possibly not :)

Hahahaha. Me too. I built a Pentium 133 mhz system around 1996 or 97
and haven't upgraded since, except to add some memory. After a while I
couldn't play the latest games. Now I can't run a lot of recent
non-game software either, so now I am finally forced to get a new
system. I'm gonna use Athlon 64 and nForce4 motherboard. I was gonna
get an Intel P4 but I changed my mind after reading how things are now.
I can't wait to play all the hot new games! What system do you have?
