What's the mechanism?

Hi,

If I name my computer on my LAN "foo" and then go to another computer
on the same LAN and type "http://foo" in easily find the first
computer. How does it do it? What's the mechanism?

Bura,

If this is a corporate LAN, there is quite likely a WINS server
providing the ip address of foo to your browser.
