Hi All,

As most people out here I guess I started off using MM for my video editing.

But since it crashes basically on every less then minor action I switched to
Pinnacle's Studio 8, even bought the HFX upgrade for it.
Only to find that Studio8 has its own problems to workaround...
Although at least I got to finish my 60 minute movie to a quite satisfactory
result.

So with MM and Studio8 not being perfect (enough) the question comes up
*what* would be a good program?

Any ideas / opinions?

Hi there,

I would guess that you were a little hasty. Your issue sounds like a codec
or acceleration problem...and it does not realy matter what video editing
program you are using...they will all have problems of this sort.

The solution to your problem is very likely to be found under acceleration
and codecs in the problem solving section of www.papajohn.org

Maybe you would get more by asking on a more general newsgroup, like
microsoft.public.windowsxp.video or rec.video.desktop

Or at the high end, ask the professionals at rec.video.production

Hi again JD,

I was thinking about your post over books and mocha tonight at Barnes &
Noble. There's a new book by PC Magazine 'Guide to Digital Video'. Chapter 3
covers: Choosing Your Video Editor

Here's what it suggests:

If needs are modest, use Movie Maker 2

As editing goals grow, move first into consumer editors like:
Pinnacle Studio
Ulead VideoStudio

And then to prosumer products like:
Adobe Premiere Pro
Pinnacle Edition
Sonic Foundry Vegas
Ulead MediStudio Pro

My personal take is that moving up should be to get additional features that
are not in the entry level programs, not to move away from problems. Issues
with one software package might be replaced by similar or even more
significant issues in the new software.
