What's the deal with SP4?

Seems very problematic for many who have downloaded it--- I'm getting a
laptop with W2K installed; I will avoid this SP until Microsoft issues some
kind of fix!!

That's definitely an option, however, there are many instances where SP4
installs without problems.

When performing a new installation of Windows 2000, your chances of
installing the service pack without a hitch are increased, as there are
fewer (or no) other products installed on your machine that might conflict
with SP installation.

We always recommend thorough testing of updates in your specific
environment.

I strongly dissagree!! I have spent most of my 4 day
Thankgiving re-installing WIN 2k - all because of SP 2, 3
or 4!!! A clean install - formated FAT 32 or NTFS still
produces either: "corrupted NTOSKRNL.EXE", or: blue screen
stop error 0x00000071. That with nothing else installed -
either with IE6 or the WIN 2K IE original (5?). My machine
has been running fine - but ever since trying to run
service packs I can not start the OS - WHY do I need the
SP - because my ISP - MSN (!!) - insists in having at
least SP2. So I have now dropped MSN (been with them for 3
years @$22/month) in favor of NetZero HiSpeed dial up.

The point is: I have NEVER held a grudge against
Microsoft - until these last few days. These service packs
are bad for MS PR and are wasting my time.

Is there a fix for these problems - or should I forget the
service packs? My system is now fine - with no SP's.
