Is the Pack and go the best way to transfer a powerpoint
project? We have a project that works on 1 pc but when
transferred to a laptop, the music and text fills are out
of sync when it is run. This does not happen every time,
sometimes it works fine.
We are wondering if we need to build the project on the
laptop from scratch to get it to work properly.. any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Pack and Go is not one of my favourite tools in the PowerPoint package. Would
only use it as a last resort.

Timings and synchronizations in PowerPoint are system dependent. Things like
what you have running in the background, HD speeds differ from machine to
machine. How clean (defrag) is your system, all play a role. Once you have your
presentation on the laptop, you might want to tweak the timings to suit that
particular machine

do you think we are better off rebuilding the presentation
on the laptop that is having the problems? do you think
that would help?

Hello,

Even in the latest version of PowerPoint (2003), other than synchronizing
the beginning of one thing with the beginning of another thing on the same
slide, there is no other kind of synchronization in PowerPoint. The feature
for this degree of timing control is just not built into the product.

So, for example, if you want to sychronize animations , transitions and
other events across multiple slides with some kind of background sound, you
will get inconsistent results from system to system.

If this kind of cross-slide, system independent synchronization is
important to you, don't forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case.

Thanks,

I would not go to all that work . I would copy the presentation to your laptop,
and then on the laptop, adjust the timings where necessary.
