Kaspersky and NOD32 in that order.

I suggest that you get a Cable/DSL Router such as the Linksys BEFSR41. It will help
mitigate Hackers and Internet worms. In addition if your DSL provider uses PPPoE the
Router, not the PC, will make the PPPoE connection. There are many other advantages to such
a device as well.

As always, I suggest blocking both TCP and UDP Ports 135 ~ 139 and 445 on *any* SOHO Router.

thanks

i have every unneeded service in win2000 shut off
i know u cant completely disconnect RPC but i dont
see where a hacker can get in such that i need a router to be a blocker.
i did a port probe and the ports show closed.

my Adsubtract uses port 4444 which shows open.
is that a problem ?

also trojans and keyloggers are more prevalent
now than viruses. which of the two is better for those ?

thanks

There are Trojan backdoors and Keylogerrs known to use TCP port 4444. But I don't know if
it is being used as a vector for infection.

Have you tested with an online scanner, such as:

Personally, I feel that any fulltime (dsl, cable) connection should have
a router...

Kaspersky
behind a router.

Foolhardy to use DSL without a router.
40 bucks at WalMart.

Oh, and your keyboard seems to be broken.
Apparently the shift key doesn't work.

Kaspersky and NOD32 in that order.

When reading tests I must say that the difference beetween the best and the
rest doesn't seem all that big.

But... IRL my oppinion is that the difference is close to HUGE!!!

On a regular basis I have had ~5-10 viruses and ~30 infested files found
with Kaspersky OL and BitD AFTER running Avast OR Antivir.

(Reason: Most likely some hidden /unknown malware downloader)
