Just installed it today and wondered what I should be looking for or
testing?

Is there a feature/improvement list anywhere???

At this point, changes are almost exclusively bug fixes and reliability
improvements. So you should look for stuff that was broken before, and see
if its fixed now. Also, do all the activities that you normally do on your
computer, and make sure Vista does them beautifully and well. File bugs if
it doesn't.

Check your past bugs and "fit and finish" items. MS is also looking for
issues with upgrades from XP to Vista.

Where is the most appropriate place to file bugs. Vista doesn't show up on
either of my "Connect" accounts.

Oh my,

From my experiences with prior beta's I'd never do an upgrade from xp. It
took entirely too long, and way too many programs were broke. Everyone I
know who is going to do an upgrade, I'm gonna tell them not to do an upgrade
but a clean install.

Someone has to do an upgrade eventually or else they won't be able to sell
and upgrade version of Vista come January. I don't think people will be too
happy if they go to buy Vista only to find they can't find an upgrade
version of it on the shelves because everytime someone tried to upgrade from
xp or 98 or whatever they had to do an clean install anyways.

I was very curious to know if an "all or nothing" XP to Vista upgrade would
leave a lot of broken programs, so I tried it a few days ago. I had real
good results with 5744 and figured it just might work really well - and it
did.

Many who have clean-installed Vista know that the installation is very
fast; when upgrading XP it goes from perhaps 25 minutes to about 2 hours or
slightly more (I guess that all depends how much "stuff" you have installed
in XP). Nothing was broken. However, I made a mistake that made the whole
thing go wrong, that is, I had Windows OneCare 1.1 installed in XP and
didn't uninstall it prior to the upgrade (duh). When launching Vista,
OneCare would announce it was "exiting." I was very concerned about having
firewall/virus protection and could not uninstall 1.1 successfully; so very
late in the evening I "nuked" Vista (and everything) and reinstalled XP
(slow and tedious) and all the programs, then ran the files and settings
transfer wizard that I had just created and stored on another drive to get
my data back. Sadly, in the meantime, Microsoft Support had written a very
detailed message with steps to get OneCare out hopefully without this
reinstall, but it was too late; so I stayed up all night and finished up
with XP.

During the time I had the "Vista with everything 'cept OneCare" I have to
say it was a great upgrade, I found nothing compromised. Windows Mail was
perfect, I believe even message rules, accounts, and everything were intact.
Office XP and everything else worked, and some things I anticipated trouble
with (Roxio Easy Media whatever 8.0) worked fine, though I intentionally
didn't install it's backup program as the Vista upgrade advisor states that
it can interfere with an install, though it can be reinstalled (and work, I
guess?) after the upgrade is complete. Actually the one and only thing I
didn't get to see was OneCare 1.5 beta. Not one item was missing from
hardware devices, no "unidentified" devices - everything worked great. All
peripherals worked!

Still unclear is the nagging question of "can I upgrade to Vista (beta) now
and the retail version will validate what's there with a mouseclick or two,
or will a complete clean install be required (I hope not).

Bill, something I have noticed from several users who said they upgraded
to Vista from XP- some programs, like Nero, actually work well after an
upgrade, but, won't install correctly many times on a "clean install" of Vista.

You mentioning WOC 1.5 is a good point to remember- I would uninstall *any*
AV on XP prior to upgrading to Vista, regardless of what the upgrade/compatibility
advisor says.
