whats java virtual machine?

I recently had windows xp put onto my computer. The person that did this also put in a firewall...now I cant go play games anywhere without a window popping up and telling me I need the java deal. Can you help me?

Just download Java Runtime and install it.
The online games mostly need Java Technology to run Java Applets.
