what's important, field name or its order?

A file needs to be appended which has 6 fields of same name & type etc. Some
data gets appended (when order of fields is same as parent file) and rest
are unwanted fields but their order is next to the above fields. What I want
to know is whether Access matches the field names or the order? Thanks
