What's a tolerable temperature?

To some of the posts here about freezes and abrupt
shutdowns, posters have answered the problem could lie in
excessive heat within the case. So I shut down and
restarted into BIOS to see what the temperature is after
4 hours' work.

Question: what is an acceptable case temperature during
normal work, i.e., not playing games?

Hi, Mary,

My case/motherboard temp usually runs about 98 degrees Fahrenheit.
You need to remove the case at least once a year and blow out all the dust
bunnies,
And be sure all the cooling fans are dust free and working.

This site:
http://www.3degs.net/index.php?page=weblinks&dsn1=nav_weblinks
has links to the spec sheets for various processors. If you know what kind of
processor you have, it will tell you what the maximum operating temperature is.

If you don't like rebooting and going into the bios all the time, go this this
site:
http://mbm.livewiredev.com/
and get a copy of motherboard monitor 5, which will show you the temerature of
all the sensors in your computer, monitor them, and alert you or even shutdown
if it gets too hot.

Thanks to Grant and Squire for the tips. I looked at the
suggested link. A case with an Intel P 4 can tolerate 70
degrees Celcius; mine, after 4 hours' work, had 32.5 C
(90.5 F). the CPU had 100 F.
