Flightdisc

Hello all,

While using Acronis Disk Director to free up space on a friends hard drive I
noticed Acronis labeled one of the partitions as Scramdisk. Neither of us
have any idea what the hell that is. The Scramdisk partition is occupying
over 240GB of space on his 500GB drive, but my friend is afraid of getting
rid of it for fear of damaging his drive.

Is this something that was put there by the drive manufacturer (Maxtor) and
it is safe to get rid of it?

Cari,

My friend swapped drives from an older machine he inherited and installed it
in his current PC. He wants to wipe the old software and install fresh XP
then we noticed that odd looking partition. Judging from the link you
provided it looks like Scramdisk is an encryption on that particular
partition.

I'm going to assume here that it's ok to delete the partition to recover the
space it's occupying. Hopefully we won't damage the drive in any way. Thank
you for your response.

Would be interested in hearing about any hard disk physical damage done by
removing partitions...
