What's a reasonable CPU temp?

For an Athlon 2700+ (T-bred) in a lightly loaded system? The 1800+ I just
replaced ran about 43-45C with room temps up to about 80F. The 2700+ shows
49C after 45 min with a room temp of 74F. Can I assume anything below 60C
is fine?

Thanks.

Yes.

Anything below 60C is ok under full load but with a well ventilated case
and a decent cooler, it shouldn't get much over 50C under full load and
idle in the 30's. If you are using the stock AMD cooler, replacing it with
a good cooler will lower temps by 10C. The best cheap one I found was the
TR2-M3 (or M1, not M2). At $6.95 when I bought it, it outperforms many
costing 5 times as much or more and is very quiet.

I"ve got a solid copper 1COOLPC heatsink and a tower with two fans plus the
power supply fan. Right now the tower is sitting outside the computer desk
but normally it's inside which I think will drive up the temps a little
more. Would you expect the 2700 chip to run hotter than the 1800 due to its
higher clock speed?

Sorry, I've never heard of that brand of cpu cooler. The 2700+ tbred core
would run cooler than an 1800+ palomino core. If the 1800+ was also a
tbred core, it would have less default power than the 2700+ and thus run a
little cooler.

Yes, the 1800+ was a t-bred core. Here's an interesting (or not) tidbit. I
had the CPU fan on backwards, i.e., blowing into the heatsink. I reversed
it today but it made no difference in the CPU temp. It runs 11-12C above
the case temp.
