I have a collection of camcorder tapes (analog) of all the different
grandchildren that I have accumulated over several years. I would like
to edit these, combine them into some type of a video (integrated with
music) and be able to give as Christmas ( or birthday) gifts.

I know I can get the hardware that will let me do this but I do not
know ablout the software.I would like to be able to select a cuts of
say, grandbaby #3. piece them together, add clips of selected music
into an mpeg, or avi or whatever is the best type of file and then
burn the result onto a DVD.

I would appreciate some inputs on software suggestions. I do not want
to get too complicated, Maybe there is no simple way to do this. I
don't know. Maybe with software suggections one might list some
advantages and disadvantages of each suggestion.

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions

Be aware that you need a fast, well maintained
machine with lots of memory in order to
sucessfully work with video.

If your main goal is to make DVD copies
of your VHS home movies...you don't need
a computer. A DVD Recorder may be worth
a look.

DVDs on a DVD recorder?

However if you plan to edit your movies...
Maybe the following links will give you an
idea of what's involved.

I recently corresponded with a grandmother
who had successfully completed a project like
the one you are about to embark on. She made
DVDs from the tapes using a DVD recorder
and then used the following software:

Another option.
The Roxio DVD burning software comes with VideoWave 7 -usefull to rip
old video tapes into dvd or vcd media.
You'll need a interface to connect the analog VCR media or Camcorde with
the pc. For example:

The Adaptec PCI Videoh! 1980300 -comes with Roxio+VideoWave to build DVD
authoring, cables, etc. Around $80 Amazon.

Or.
TURTLE BEACH Video Advantage ADX - comes with similar utilities and
cables. Around $90.00 Amazon

Booth nice quality video.

I remember other way. If you have a TV-capture card, you can use the
Video-input function to capture analog signal from VCR, etc.
The software can be the Virtual Dub - www.free-codecs.com site or the
Windows Movie Maker (cnet.com site)

I would suggest taking a look at Pinnacle Studio.

I have used 't compare Pinnacle Studio to the products other posters have mentioned because I haven't used them but
