Has to be quiet.

Was thinking of just putting a papast fan on it.
I just got a coolermaster Aero7 to replace a Volcano7+:-)
Hellava diff, temps are up to 18C lower under full load and its fan can be
adjusted via a contol that goes in a 3.5 slot or a card slot.. its a good
bit of kit IMO:-)

The AERO 7+ is the winner here.
At a fan speed of about 2,000 RPM it cools my XP2700 OC to 400FSB and
2200MHz to no more than 107 F running Prime 95 for 12 hours.
I can't say enough good things about this cooler.

Both the Coolmaster 7 and Thermalright slk-800 and fine choices for CPU
cooling but they are two completely different products.. To further detail,
the coolmaster uses a unique fan design that eliminates the center 'dead
spot' caused by motor on traditional fans. The SLK-800 is one in a line of
all copper heat sinks. They usually ship on their own but can often be
bundled with the fan of your choice. They are quite heavy but the all copper
construction means they absorb heat extremely well.

In fact I've seen the coolmaster 7 fan assembly sold separately and it'd
probably work not bad on the SLK-800. I'm going to buy the Theralright SK7
which is the predecessor to the SLK800. There's a good comparison article
at overclockerscafe.com.

Choosing 'the right' cooling solution is one of the more complex issues in
building your own. Each case is different and you really need to go and
check out what's available and how it'll work in your case, with your
hardware, etc. I personally think that PC mainboards and cases are simply
designed wrong to be able supply any kind of real cooling.

Hi,

i use a Volcano 11 with a Athlon XP 2800+ but it is very loud. So don't
buy this one. But you can try water cooling to have a really silent
computer.

Have you tried to use it in conjuction with a rheostat?
This way, you can select the speed of the fan and it won't be noisy anymore.
Bye.

Would love to put in on my board an A7v266-e with raid, but no idea if
it would fit.
