What you can do with Datasheets

I've found Micahel Kaplan's article about datasheets and
still have a question. Is there any way to reference a
color or font property of 1 field and not the whole form.
Using DAO, I can reference the ColumnWidth property of a
single (column); I hoped to be able to change background
color.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Al,

My name is Dennis Schmidt. Thank you for using the Microsoft Newsgroups.

Datasheets are quite limited in what you can access and change on a "per
record" or "per field" basis. However, you can work around it with what I
call a pseudo datasheet. This is actually a form designed to look like a
datasheet and run in 'continuous form" view.

1-Create a form with a form header.
2-Place labels in the form header to represent column headings.
3-Place your textboxes in the detail section (without labels), immediately
under the form header bar.
4-Size your textboxes the width you want your columns.
5-Shrink your design area in the detail section so that it is only the
height of the row of textboxes.

Now each textbox's properties are available for change/modification.
Remember, if you are using Access 2000 and above, you can conditionally
format each of these controls so that the textbox properties (font color as
an example) will change with each record. If you are using Access 97 and
below, you do not have this option and a change made on one record will be
reflected for all displayed records.

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
