I have an older hp pavilion with 98 on it and just bought
xp home addition up grade, and now am building a new
machine from scratch.
Do I have to buy a full version of xp, and omd version, or
can I get a Licence and use my currant disc.
Thanks:
Steve

You need to purchase a Full Version to install on a computer without a
current OS.

Sore subject for me. I recently purchased an OEM version of XP from
mwave.com No where did it state that it was the upgrade version vice the
full version. Of course, I had to buy hardware (bought motherboard, cpu and
ram) to support the OEM purchase. Mwave.com also has a page defining OEM,
did not state anything regarding full or upgrade version of operating
systems.

In the past, OEM regarding MS operating systems CD meant that you don't get
the fancy box, or the first free 30 days free tech support from MS. Yes, I
sent an email to mwave regarding this issue.

You can use an XP upgrade version if you have a copy of a qualifying
operating system installation CD. This may not include a restoration CD.

Some online stores offer licenses/keys for more PCs to work with one install
CD. Not sure if it works with upgrade version.

That's because OEM versions cannot perform upgrades. They are
specifically designed to be installed on clean hard drives.
