what would i need for a dvd drive

i have a p4 3.2 ghz, 2 gig mem 1066 fsb asus pfld2 and a bfg 6600 video
card. now with that in mind i want to put a dvd rom and want to know should
i go with a dvd decoder card or would i be wasting money that way and if i
should which card should i buy or os there a way to have the video card take
the burdon of the dvd rom?

You don't need any hardware to watch a DVD on your computer. Only DVD
software like Win DVD or Power DVD. This software is included with most Asus
motherboards and with some (non OEM) DVD+/-R(W) units.

It is a waste of money. The DVD player software is all that
is needed. It is often included with the DVD drive, or a
video card, or if not then purchase the software separately.
 
just wanted to say thanks you to you both, but i went a differant route less
expecive but longer. i just take my laptop thats has a dvd then copy the
disk with a ripper put them on my server then play them on my gaming pc. yes
there is some lage when the chapters change but it works for now......
