what would be the most important thing to learn about spreadsheet

I am about to start a new job that requires me to know about spreadsheets,
it's a pest control business, and I will be keeping up with all the clients
records. If they've paid or if they haven't. I will also be doing
collections on deliquent files.
I've done spreadsheets a long time ago, but I need brushing up.
What should I focus on first?
