I recently had a change in office personnel, vacating assistant added a
password to outlook start up. I can not get past the screen asking for the
password. If I repair the office programs, what will happen to the pst files?

As for your question; nothing will happen to pst-files just like nothing
with happen to your doc and xls-files

As for your situation; what password are we talking about here?
-network
-pst-file
-account

Also note that a repair is there to fix program corruption not
misconfiguration.

As Robert said, nothing will happen to them. However, it's possible that
the repair function might insert a new PST into your profile, thereby hiding
your existing PST. You wouldn't in that case, merely have to add the old
one back in with File>Open>Outlook Data File and change the delivery
location to be the old PST. You can do this at the bottom of Tools>E-mail
Accounts>Next.

I am getting this error message when I am trying to open a pst file:

*.pst is not a personal folders file
And it is only 29 MB in size.

Please help me to solve this problem.

Sounds like that particular PST is garbage.

This slightly indicate corruption in .pst file. As yuo told size of .spt is
not a issue. Try running inbox repair toll (scanpst.exe).
