How do you tell what type of memory you have in your computer? I thought
there used to be a screen that showed your hard drive and memory and other
hardware info.

The most obvious places to look would be in the computer's manual
or on the computer manufacturer's web site. Failing that:

1) Start > Run > MSinfo32.exe.

or

2) Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information.

or

3) Start > Run > DXDiag.exe.

or

4) Right-click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager.

or

5) If none of the built-in tools provide the information you want, you
can use these utilities to help determine the answer to your question:

SiSoft's Sandra

Belarc Advisor

Unlimited Possibilities' AIDA32

Lavalys' Everest Home

Also, Crucial Memory's web site (www.crucial.com) has a database
to help to find the right RAM for your specific make and model
computer and/or motherboard.

Does that actually tell you the memory type? I just get a table with
addresses down the left and "[model] graphics controller" or
"motherboard resources" down the right -- nothing about chip size or
ns rating.

They decided to stop giving it away. Now you have to pay for it.
