what to exclude during a backup

There used to be an artical out there that stated what to
and not to backup using a third party backup software like
veritas. It contained exlcusion such ad some files in
system 32 ext.. I am having issues locating this doc.
Does anyone out there remember this doc, or no where i cna
find it
