As my site grows I have started moving pages that some people have links to.
Should I make a redirected page and leave it there?
This seems like it would make alot of pages after a while.

Or

Should I make a temporary redirected page, then delete it in a month or two.

What does everyone else do???

Thanks
Steve

Are you referring for Search Engine purposes? If so, a 301 (permanent
redirect) would be good.

if just for users of the internet, a 301 redirect is good also or just
putting that meta refresh tag in there after maybe 10 seconds. That way
people will see they need to update their bookmarks.

If you find yourself changing the page names a lot, you might try to plan a
little bit more so it helps and you don't need to rename the pages.

Why move them? You're going to take up the same amount of disk space on your
web site if the page is in one folder or the root. I "archive" pages each
year, but I don't move the pages from the folders they are in. If you're
moving them completely off your site then visitors are going to get a "Page
Not Found" notice any way.

Leave the old page for a time, and say "This page has change location,
please update your bookmarks" (or similar), then provide a link tothe new
page (or do the meta refresh to automatically go to the new page).
then remind visitors again, "Bookmark this Page".

I'd do as you say, leave the notice in for a month or two and eventually
delete the redirect notices. If there are regulars to your site, they will
soon pickup on the moved pages and update their bookmarks.
