got new desktop XP. what to do with the old 98 hard
drive. can it fit inside the XP box. erasing info on the
hard drive is not a problem...moving on with life. would
like to use the old drive for store stuff. thanks for any
help.

Any IDE hard drive can be installed in your new computer,
just set it as a slave with the jumpers. The primary hard
drive should also be jumpered as master.

The old drive will be probably be slower, have some issues
with age, it could fail, but only data you write to the
drive would be lost. Once installed you can simply copy the
files you want to the new drive and then format the old
drive.

98 drive is fujitsu. is fujitsu drive a good one?

looking at the drive it has on the plastic surface a
wagon-wheel design with 97 in the middle. this would be
the date?
also the jumpers label has layouts for master and slave
and csel.
what is csel?

csd is "cable select" which means the drive will run as
master or slave based on the position on the cable.
Factories love that setting because they can put all their
drives (hard drives and CD/DVD as csd and then install them
on the production line without having to hand the small
jumpers.
Fujitsu is a good drive. It will be small compared to new
drive because it is older.
