What to do with defective 300GB drive?

I had a Maxtor 300GB fail on me. It's about 18 months old :-(.

Any ideas what to do with it? It partially works, but gives SMART
errors, and WinXP has a hard time reading from it.

Thanks,

Stan

Replace it on warranty ?

Am I missing something here ?

Return it if it is still under warranty and you don't mind the
data on it getting to Maxtor?

Otherwise paperweight or trash. To delete the date, open the drive,
remove and bend the platters. Blowtorch them in addition if
you are paranoid.
