Hi, I am using MS Word 2002 on an XP machine.
The MS Word on this machine has the problem that words at the end of a line
were broken. For example:
"English" becomes "Engl
ish"

I guessed this is because problem of language setting. So, I go to Tools ->
Language ->Set Languages.
A dialog popup. but I have no idea how to use this dialog to set language.
It seem only let you select but not de-select languages: I double clicked a
language, so it is shown as selected with a check mark, but there is no way
to remove the check mark.

Anywhere, the above word broken problem is not solved by set language.
If anyone knows how to fix this problem, please help!

Thanks!

George

The problem could be caused by a damaged font or document. Try applying a
different font to see if that makes any difference. If not, see

Hi, Suzanne, I tried several fonts, the results were the same. I also tried
to save as html file than reopen it, but still no effect.
Should I uninstall MS Office and re-install it?
Thanks?
George

I uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office, but the problem still there.
This could because the XP computer previously used in Korean language and
now in Chinese and English, I think.
Please help! I am really got head ache for the problem.
Thanks!

Okay, I overlooked the point of your original question. Select all the text
in the document. Then go to Tools | Language | Set Language and choose
English. If you want to assure that English is the default language for all
documents you create, click the Default... button *and* make sure that
English is selected under Control Panel | Regional Options | Input Locales.

Thank you for help. However, I did "go to Tools | Language | Set Language
and choose English. If you want to assure that English is the default
language for all documents you create, click the Default... button", but the
problem still there.
My PC is Windows XP, so I cannot find "Control Panel | Regional Options |
Input Locales". There are "Control Panel | Regional and Language Options |
Regional Options |, the "Standard and formates" was set to "English (United
States)" and the location was set to "Canada". On the Languages tag, the
default input language has been set to "English (United States)" , the
Installed services are CH Chinese (PRC)->Keyborad->Chinese(simplified) and
EN English (United States) -> Keyboard ->US.

I doublt that the problem is from Windows, as other windows program such
Notepad and WordPad, even PowerPoint work well. I believe this problem is
the MS Word itself.

Any more help?

Thanks!

Are you sure the keyboard is currently set to English? Have you tried
posting in microsoft.public.word.international.features or
microsoft.public.word.spelling.grammar (the latter covers all Proofing
Tools)?
